Cadavar, I am now beginning to think your Ventrilo problems are related to your audio setup. It may be that your sound setup has some conflicts with Vent. If you don't use voip, you may want to disable it in BF2. The BF2 freebie had major issues. It is lower quality than the cheapest analogs. See if you can borrow someone's analogs and re-enable your sound card for the game and vent. Makes a big difference for me when dogfighting. Even when I can't see someone, I can hear them.

I switched my sound over to "hardware", and I've made it through several rounds on Daqing now without Vent dying. Not sure if that's what it was, or if it was something in the latest patch.

When I switched to hardware, the game sounds were clipped and non understandable. I switched back. I did change the hardware settings now to disable my onboard sound. We'll have to see how that does.

I must say you guys crack me up when I listen to you on Vent. I am laughing so hard sometimes I cant see.

I'm not sure where you disabled you onboard sound but if you did it in your BIOS you sound card will not work. In your post of Mar 09 2006 : 18:26:49, you said your earphones and mic were plugged into your sound card. This can't be true if you can disable your sound card and still have sound.

You need to verify your hardware configuration, before you post, because if you give us wrong info we will probably give you wrong answers.

Is you headset maybe plugged into a dialup modem? I have seed this before.

LOL very true, My MB an Asus A7n8xe Deluxe has an Nividia onboard sound, I have installed a PCI Soundblaster 5.1 soundcard. So in the hardware settings(cnt-alt-del) I disabled the Nividia.

wow, just read these last few posts, guess I missed them the last few weeks.
going to make all of the changes:
bios set to disable onboard, disable VOIP, and shop for some new non-usb headphones

I will let you know, hopefully in the game!!

Has anyone got any suggestions for a good headset? I would like one with mic attached.

As far as I know the drivers are up to date, and I still have bad reports of static when I key up my mic. Im thinking from an early post here that the usb part of this headset is causing the problem. or the mic is bad.
under $100 or around if at all possable as i am a poor paramedic

Try to stay with a direct attached (to the soundcard) headset/mic. I haven't had good luck with USB sets. Mine is a
Altec Lansing Stereo Headset with Microphone ,Model: AHS-322, Bestbuy $20.00! Works great.

I grabbed a cheap pair, mostly for the mic. The Vent reply runs through my speakers. Hey Ish we heard you last night! It sounded smooth but a little low in volume.

Ya the volume thing is this mic, it is weard, I pulled the foam off it and you guys heard me a little better, but I think it started being static again as when I keyed up I heard comments like: What the heck is that?, wow thats bad.

I think it is the mic/headset
