Just curious. I know that many of you are heavily into Freelancer, but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on PR1 for Mercs (those of you who have it).

My only problem with Mercs PR1 is that I'm sooo freakin' rusty. Prior to the PR1, the game had gotten so full of ERPPC laden BK's and Gladbags that it was just plain boring, so I quit playing altogether.

With the release of the patch, I've started playing again and, aside from getting killed all the time because I'm playing so badly, I'm having fun again. I'm seeing a lot more variety than before with regard to weapons choice. I'm also seeing more variety in mechs too - although not much variety in mech types (i.e., I still see mostly assaults).

I'm glad they reduced the range of the ERPPC, fixed the "no fog" problem and strip our the hacked mechs. Some of the other stuff, I'm luke warm on. The heat fixes solve the problem (I guess, but I wouldn't know since I didn't use the heat bug), but I think it's a bit too simplistic. I do hate the added heat splash now along with the extended shut down. Being an infighter/harasser, I get hit with that one a lot (and I tend to drive low heat mechs). I'm also not so sure about the reduced knock, but again, I wouldn't know how big the problem was since I usually drive an Uller and they can't hardly hit me anyway.

Some things I wish they would have done - change the hardpoints on the BK and Gladiator to make boating 4 ERPPCs impossible. And, I still mourn the loss of the 2 slot hardpoints on the Uller and Cougar from the BK configuration.

All in all, I think they did a good job. If they would fix the third person view, it would be nearly perfect.

i tend to agree with Aged. i had only dropped a few league matches in Mercs in the lst month, so i was really rusty last night when i finally took a scat and a raven out for some time in the opens ().

all i can say after the first night returned is:
my skills seem to have waned with all the weird mousing that freelancer requires ;
it was a lot more fun than it had been ;
i am looking forward to getting into some classic nr tonight or this weekend ...

all in all, thumbs up!

Looks like a lot of the other CMO's are starting to return as well Patrick.

I dropped against your Clanmates all night last night (can't remember the server though). I've been running into HeavyGun off and on. Seems that I tend to be a favorite target of his when online, although for the most part I'll give almost as good as I get.

I've been having a lot of fun running IS Puretech rigs of late, doesn't put me at the top of the list, but I have a lot of fun. I'm seeing fewer and fewer ERPPC boats on the open servers, and NONE on the no respawn servers.

Aged, if you want to avoid the 3rd person servers, try ANY of the NBT servers. They are ALL FFP. They're also no respawn so I'm not sure how you'll feel about that, but you should get 3-5 drops per map (30 minute). Should also give you the opportunity to slow down and get your bearings again as well since the pacing is much different than on open servers.

.. but I'm a dirty cross techer.

(and a darn unusual one at that - clan chassis/IS weapons <-- better heat characteristics)

I r very happy with teh new patch.. like said above, the ERPPC is no longer THE wepaon, and variety is returning! Also, the bouncy RAC2 is the not-so-bouncy RAC2, thank goodness.

All 'n' all,.. gg patch!
