Just a couple of nights and very little reading up. However I"m not experiencing the objectives that I did with BF2. Seems like it's just run shot run shot run shot. There is no squad talk not team play no real purpose. Great sound and really really neat maps.

There's team play Nosey, it's just a lot different than Bf2. Especially in Capture the flag, Domination, Headquarters and Search & Destroy.
You can also check for tips on the BCO site for survival in the game.

The Team Play in CoD 4/5 is VERY different than BF2 or BF2142. I love CTF so I am afraid CoD has more of my time than BF2, but the best games are when both sides apply team work. Cause, I can assure you: if one side is using team work, the other side not using it will lose (despite having a majority of better players). BF2 struck me as more forgiving with regards to that fact: Team work was good, but the more skilled players were critical to success.
There are certain elements in BF2 that also made team play better: ease of creating a Squad (present in CoD 5 but I have yet to really see them used) and the Commander seat (I miss this the most – yeah baby, oh yeah). What would be fun would be if accomplishments in game play earned the commander special perks to use in the field (it would encourage players to utilize commanders – and pay attention to kicking ineffective ones more often) and that those perks were tied to the squad following orders. So you earned minor perks in a squad, the squad earns improved perks for doing what the commander says and the commander earns serious perks based off of the progress of those squads. The Perks would need to stack but would be subject to cool downs.
Hmmm…. I would love to blend CoD 5 and BF2.

i won't be going back to BF2 unless the rumoured map is included in the next patch. i threw a lot of 'nades when i first started C0D5, trying to spot "the enemy". i miss sqaud talk, and some vehicles (especially the four-wheelers from Special Forces). i feel C0D5 is closer to the Unreal Tournament type of play and would love to see the spawn function in CoD the way it did in that game.

Same here.
Nosy,
Even in BF2 I tend to be a lone wolf though. Can't really compare BF2 to CoD. There both FPS's but their different takes on it. They weren't meant to compete against each other.
Imho, playing CoD makes you a better player, decreases your reaction time, and will make you much more situationally aware. All of which transfers nicely to BF2.
I use to play a few rounds of CoD4 before jumping into BF2, everyone felt like they were in slow motion compared to CoD4.
As for the objectives, I tend to disagree with you nosy, they're much more focused than BF2. Capture the flag, war, domination, sabotage and S&D for the most part have one common objective that hopefully everyone is working towards.
I do wish they had team or squad based voip like BF2, maybe in future. CoD slowly evolving it seems, interesting to see what the future has in store.
I'd like to see even larger maps with full compliment of vehicles including aircraft. Doubt it will go that way, but who knows. Maybe a future mod will.

So I'm not the only one who hears "You spend more time with you OMO buddies than you do talking to me". I'm trying to find balance, it's a challenge.

My response is usually that she should pick up playing games with me. Usually after that remark there is enough electricity in the air to charge a small city so I have to turn off the computer or there might be hardware damaged.

I say we have a 1942 night. The old version with the prop driven airplanes, the bombers, the ships, the real arty. A battle reminicent of the days of salad and glory.
Then y'all will remember what a real game is.

First you will have to decide which version of Bf1942 seems I have most of them lying around some where. Lets see there was BF1942, BF42 Secret Weapons, BF42 Road to Rome, and BF42 Vietnam.

Naa, a re-enacting the Battle of Britan, with the bombers and everything would be really cool

I am expecting Descent 1 and 2 to arrive today. I plan on introducing my kids to this excellent 3D shooter.
