I do understand. In the beginning RTS games used a peer hosting model that sucked but now the games are hosted at external servers owned and run by the producers of the title. The person who hosts the game doesn't need to have a fast connection they essentially only set the parameters of the match being hosted elsewhere. I think the same thing has been planned by IWnet. Thus allowing their servers to better track hacking and cheats. Not a lot of details have been released regarding how IWnet will work but my guess is the game host will not be hosted by the actual players. How could they? IW has stated clearly their desire is to eliminate cheats and hacks. The only way to monitor such would be if the information passed through their servers. Just ideas as not much has been released. I am not willing to write the game off given having seen the model I am referring to work. Different doesn't allows mean bad. Time will tell........

Been confirmed the game will be P2P hosted by an actually player. If the player disconnects, it should reconnect to a new host via host migration.

Stingray, this doesn't mean they actually host the game. In RTS games if the host drops then migration occurs which only means the new host controls the set-up/admin rights. True Peer-to-peer doesn't happen. I don't think it will happen here either. It may be that the host does a little more than the others in the game but it could not be a burden. The console version won't be true peer-to-Peer so why would the PC version? Once again I am just speculating.

Your stretching Geezer. I'd love to put on your rose colored glasses and play MW2 with you, but everything about this stinks.
I'm definitely sitting this one out unless I hear overwhelming evidence other wise.
All the evidence points to a fail for us PC guys. I also don't want to pay $60 to beta test IW.net for these guys. I can't see how it could be economical for IW to pay for DS on the backside to host our games. Server farms and bandwidth is very expensive would take a substantial cut into their profits.

I don't blame you for caution. Caution makes sense to me. As it gets closer to release more details will come out regarding their MP system. If it sucks then I would be the first to admit it. However, so many across the internet have written this game off without much real information. So, until the game is released I have no hard evidence that it won't be a decent game. Only time will tell.......

I have to agree 100% with Stingray on this one. It's confirmed that the system is a gateway for peer to peer hosting. In other words, IW.net simply filters the net code for things such as ping, cd key, hacks, etc. The server is in fact one of the persons playing the game and if that host drops, the system moves the server to the next player in line that has met the ping, connection, etc test.
Assuming, for the sake of argument, that 128k per player (pretty standard and maybe a little low with the advanced functions in the game, but also IW may have come up with a super tight code), will be the min upload connection of the host. In other words, when I test my speed with Comcast today to my local Comcast office, I have about a 600k upload speed. This means for a smooth game of MP, I would be able to host 5 players (plus myself). WOW great, a 6 player server. And that's only if the people joining the game are close by, god forbid they are in the center or even East coast of the US.
If you know anything about dedicated servers and the "true" upload/download pipes they have, you will see that only people that have mega massive European style connections will be able to host a decent game. Just remember, download speeds mean very little in this equation and upload speeds are the meat of the matter.

Wow! It was an F-bomb every two seconds. Not a game to play around children. You better be able to turn off speech in the audio controls.

Adding a bit more, I wish all games allowed mature language to be turned off. A person would think that mature games would appeal to a greater audience if better audio control options existed. Most people aren't as concerned about animated violence. Unfortunately developers seem to be lumping the action prompts and environmental voices onto the same track and or toggle. Back when I was an Unreal tournament junky it was nice to be able to turn off the mature taunts.

It's strange that we can blow the head off zombies with ultra realistic gore and smile but hear some foul language and cringe! I don't disagree with you Geezer, it just hit me as strange is all! It's like 50 murders on TV each night but don't you dare show a bare breast! It's whacked! But I digress!

It is an odd cultural thing. I don't know that any it is overly positive, especially at certain ages, but to me sound is much harder to control in a home than light/sight. Unless you are standing right behind the person playing a violent game you wouldn't see much gore. However, the sounds/intense language, etc, everyone experiences, in or out of the room. Sure, headphones can solve this issue but at times I like to interact with the members of my household while gaming. Harsh language prevents this.

I wear headphones but with one side off my ears so i can listen to the wife with one ear and bypass bragging about his seahawks in the other.
When I was in Sweden in the late 80's you could rent porno movies form the local 7/11 but the violent American movies like Rambo were banned lol.

I actually agree that every M rated game should have a language filter so that you can turn off the harsh language. I have no kids around the house to worry about, but sometimes when I have the windows open I will turn the sound down so I don't blast (Fing A soldiers, Fing A) through the neighborhood. I hate headphones, and have too nice of a sound system on my PC to not use it, so turning it down is the only option sometimes.
