Here is a Review regarding Shattered Horizons found by my buddy Kinketsu.
http://gaming.icrontic.com/articles/shattered-horizon-review
A small quote from the article gives me even more of a motive for purchase:
"Graphically, Shattered Horizon is exactly what you would expect from Futuremark. The game is gorgeous. When played on DirectX 11 hardware, Shattered Horizon is one of the best looking games on the market today. The sun glints off of metal surfaces in a very convincing manner. Real time soft shadowing is applied to all surfaces. Lights from all sources flare and reflect off of your visor, creating an immersive simulation of light refraction on the curved glass surface. In action, the game is simply breathtaking. This beauty comes at a price, though, and in true Futuremark style, the game will definitely tax your system. It is the perfect title to stress your hardware."
Given I just built a machine with an I7 CPU and an ATI 5850 DirectX 11 Video card I need to see what it can do.

I'm in ... just waiting on my Windows 7 to arrive ...
BTW ... the $18 is a slight discount that I think ends tonight or tomorrow. I think from the FutureMark site you can get a different discount if you have bought one of their benchmarking tools ...

And you get a discount if you were beta testing the game. Could not find any stores selling it except via download.

Well, the game looks sweet, except it is too choppy on my laptop, so I'll have to wait till the 20th to play.

This game is really good for the money. WoW! It is the deepest FPS I have ever played. What is amazing is that the controls are very simple but the fact that you play in a true 3D environment is what makes it so tactically rich. Simple point and shoot will not win the fight. Futuremark has come up with a FPS that is many years ahead of its time. The average ground pounding FPS player will probably over look this gem. Just being aware of the direction of the light source is important in this game for concealing your location. The first couple of rounds I played, were a bit frustrating but then I figured out that you have to think completely different. Flanking an enemy can be done in an infinant number of planes. This is Homeworld meets FPS. Stupid people will not do well in this game. LOL
Here are some screen shots. Notice the light and shadows. Every asteroid can be a place to hide and shoot from.

lol... now you understand why I have a fondness for the Descent series? Like I have said before: this is Descent without the Pyro.
Now I have to upgrade my main comps OS. It is XP.

Game sure is fun. Should have a SH night. Does take a beating on my GPU's though. Really starting to show their age.

Me, Bypass and Kinketsu are playing tonight. My ATI 5850 seems to be handling the game on high settings but I can see how it could be harsh on an older single card systems. You are running SLI 8800's right? Kinketsu is going to be using a single 8600 GTS but on a new I7 system. Even so his settings will need to be very low I think. Bypass is running a GTX 260 and says it is doing the job nicely.
This is the most challenging FPS I have ever played. CRAZY! The irony is that it isn't a really fast FPS but the 360 degree stuff makes it hard and tactical. It is like, Tribes meets, Homeworld, meets a flght simulator. Bypass and I where fighting a lot on the dark side of an astroid ridge last night and it was so awesome! Fighting in groups really helps because the enemy can come from anywhere. They start out in front of you and then suddenly they are behind! LOL I wouldn't say that this is a perfect game but Futuremark has an awesome formula here. All this for $18.00!!!!!! Nice!

Yeah, 8800GTX's in SLI, had to turn all the eye candy off, running at 1920x1200 resolution though and have no lag. 45-60 fps running this way.

Bypass, Kinketsu and myself played a ton of games last night. The more I play this game the more and more I like it. I would encourage people to give it a try. The best game type is battle mode where you have to capture points and hold them.
I will be on around 7pm Bypass or anyone else that wants to join me.
