Well, I have my old computer I let my daughter use and I also keep it around in case my new one crashes for any reason. I think it has:
Windows XP
ASUS A8n32-sliDeluxe Motheboard"Gaming NVIDIA"
I think theres 8 gigs of ram in it.
Not sure about everything else, although I should know...but, hey I'm getting old.
I had sound issues with this machine. I had a good sound card in there. But for some reason could get no sound even switching to the onboard sound.
So, I downloaded an update for the motherboard focusing on the sound drivers. I noticed I was getting a "Stipe" error when I was installing the new pgm. (don't ask me what update because I used the one recommended on their site after it told me what I needed)
Now when it boots it gets past the start and then it comes to:
DETECTING ARRAY...........
and nothing.
I've tried booting it with the mb cd, windows cd, and even tried to hit TAB, F8, DELETE, F4 during the short time when it starts and gets hung, but nothing...
I got a little pissed and decided what I need to do is just wipe the damn drive and start over. But, for the first time it won't even boot off the wipe drive CD.
So, any of you smart guys have any ideas?

It probably comes down to how much energy are you willing to put into figuring it out ... e.g. how much use were you getting out of the machine versus cost these days of some kind of replacement. Can likely get equivalent config for very cheap at a used shop ... or alternatively get significantly more power and/or portability in a new box for not too much, these days.
If you want to invest the energy, my instinct would be strip it down to one RAM chip, disconnect power to all drives (floppy, HD and optical), remove all peripheral cards except video ... and then see if it boots ... if yes, try DELETE key to get to BIOS.
If that doesn't work, swap out the RAM chip with another and try again.
If you want to be really thorough and have the components you can experiment with alternative keyboards, mice, vid cards in the mix.
If you can't get a boot after a couple of reasonable configurations ... I'd guess dead, or something more serious like PSU.
If you do get to BIOS, then you have a foundation for trying to build it up one piece at a time, to find the fault.
[ FWIW, that ARRAY thing makes me think of Raid ... I wonder if a hard disk or hard disk controller is faulty. Not sure why the CD boot wouldn't work except that perhaps the CD is not being checked for boot record prior to the HD. ]

Well, for some reason my 24" 1 and a half year old monitor on that machine crashed. So, I have to wait until I get back home to I can replace it and find a new one. I just pitched a perfectly good regular monitor that had been sitting in the corner of my office for 3 years...Thinking about salvaging the parts, selling them and getting a good laptop for them...

I know this might be overly simplistic, but have you tried popping out and reinserting the bios battery to reset back to default.

This weekend I replaced a fan in my case and then the system wouldn't come up! Thought I might have bumped something getting to the fan. Turns out is WAS THE FLIPPIN FAN! Unplugged the fan from the mobo and it came up, WTF? HB, the first rule in troubleshooting a PC is reset the bios and breakdown the PC to as few parts as you can. Mobo, one memory card, video card. If that doesn't work then swap the video. If that changes nothing then it's the power supply, mobo or a connection somewhere. Does your mobo have an LED readout telling you where it hangs in the power on self test (POST) process?

Oddly, I've had two power supplies die the past month on two different PCs in my house.
