I;ve become very curious about these. Not too many servers are running them - these are MW4Mercs multiplay games with actual objectives - like attack/defend a target, etc.
Anyone play these? Any interest in playing these?
Not many servers are running them (mostly NBT servers) - and they all seem to be "no respawn" games...seems like a more realistic concept of gaming to me....

I've played "Capture the Flag" a few times, but personally prefer "Team Destruct", although, is there "POPTARTS" in "Capture the Flag", Hmmm Can't remember

I've played a few CTF games - haven't seen a poptart yet - it isn't really an effective style for CTF.
This, though is different from CTF. This is actually 2 teams - with osomething like "Team 1 objective: destroy base radio facilities within 10 minutes" "Team 2 objective - defend base radio facilities for 10 minutes" - stuff like that - the actual win/loss in the game is who meets their objective. In other words - more like the single player missions in the games - but with live lancemates and opponents.

The main issues are every current "objective" can be destroyed from at least 800m from multiple locations and you get ultralights with arty beacons which will easily get to and destroy the targets. This makes the defending team at a major loss. This leads to everyone quickly jumping on the attacking team. The defending team can win but is usually against a newer team.

Hmmm...so what if one were set up, restricted to shorter/medium range weapons?

I personally like CTF the best in any of the FPS games I have played. However, I hate the way MW4 implements it. Descent3 CTF matches were fun because you cannot score unless your flag is located at the base. This means you have to have a good defense to protect your flag, a good offense to hunt down a captured flag and to grap the flag.
In MW4 the real challenge was undermined by not requiring your own flag at the base to score. Anyways, I have not seen CTF matches for Mercs.

Check out what's going on over at www.mechwarriorleagues.com
Neuromancer, et al, are putting together a Planetary League. ie; you start out with a home planet, if you affiliate with a faction/clan & defend/expand as best you can. If with a pirate group you're in it for the booty only, no planets or territory held but keep all booty. Mercs take territory & hand it over to the employer & collect their paychecks.
Sounds like what you're looking for. Mission based attack/defend with a virtual reward, territory or loot.
They seem to be a pretty good bunch over there, about as whacked as you guys but more organized.

p.s.; I was accepted as a member of Team Banzai a week ago. To be honest, I had thought briefy of withdrawing my app with them & applying to OMO but TB seemed to present more opportunities. Both groups are the best, imo, in the community. It's tough to make those kind of choices. On the bright side I can now play tag, in my Raven, with Aged, et al, with rightous aggression. Ok, have I got you all really, really scared now? TA

I used to play some of those games, where each team had a base to defend. Each base had automated defenses (lasers, Calliopes, etc) and a HQ and COMM CENTER building that had to be defended.
It was interesting, but generally it ended up with long ranges sniping to take out the automated defenses, then lights speeding in and Artillery bombing the targets.
IMHO they should have made the defenses indestructible, and banned arty.

As I recall from BK days, about all you needed to win at mission play was a Hellspawn with T-bolts. (Of course, arty beacons are even better.)
To Titus,
Congrats on joining TB. They're a pretty good bunch of people from what I've seen. Oh, and catch me if you can.
