I thought maybe we could form up a merc unit or something?

At the very least you should give the Solaris league a shot.
Very fast paced, single life format based on the single player Solaris missions. No team required, sign up for league, sign up for matches, show-up and blow stuff up.

I'm willing.

My availability is an issue, though - being a West coast type with family responsibilities.

yeah - availability could be a problem for most of us.

Especially if it fills up with kids making challenges for during the work day or something

BTW - did you figure out that problem we were discussion re: weapons placement?

MWL is a pretty good group of people. Not too many of the 'we-will-fight-you-at-this-time-even-if-you-have-to-skip-out-on-work-types'
Seems a lot of teams join the 3v3 team battle ladder to 'get their feet wet', meet some of the other teams and get a feel for the MWl site.
3v3 team battle rules with chassis restrictions. No assault mechs :)
3 drops of 15 minutes apiece go pretty quick

I signed up for the Solaris thing. When are the matches? (crossing fingers for significant activity after 9 pm Pacific time)

Festus,

"short in the headset" is a Navy euphemism for not having any brains.

The hand signal for pulling your head out of your ass is pretty cool too.

Solaris match times are all over the place. Currently we have 7 people who host and admin them (report stats and what not). They pretty much find times when they can do it. A few are West coast who occasionally run up some PST friendly times.

So far, this is it for lights and mediums (not interested in heavies or assaults, myself):

06-03-2003 02:00:00 PM EDT: SolarisLeague - Medium Weight Class Factory on server MWL Solaris League 4 (2 slots available)
06-06-2003 01:00:00 AM EDT: SolarisLeague - Medium Weight Class Jungle on server MWL Solaris League 4 (14 slots available)
06-01-2003 08:45:00 PM EDT: SolarisLeague - Light Weight Class GladiatorPit on server MWL Solaris League 4 (5 slots available)
06-02-2003 10:00:00 PM EDT: SolarisLeague - Light Weight Class Jungle on server MWL Solaris League 2 (6 slots available)

*** fingers crossed for more, and later, matches ***

BTW, I signed up for the 1 AM Medium match. (now, I've just got to get used to going that slow...)

The other ladders look interesting (I'd love to try the 3v3 one), but game times just don't work (at least for me).

I've now migrated back to the old P3-500 because it's reliable. Unfortunately, that's below the minimum system requirements for Mercs. The game will play but the graphics are just too jittery. So much for my first Solaris match.
