Ok, after finally updating the driver and the Mercs update I was finally able to get Mercs up and running last night. Played a few games and did fairly well for a rook.
Couple of questions, when I'm in the game lobby there are only about 5-8 games that are white and I can play. There are red games that indicate "older versions". Then there are hundreds of green games that says "new version". How the hell do I get the newer version that what I have? After that, it's off to figure out the map thing. geeeeze, this is a microsoft product, no wonder it is so hard to get up and running. Any help?

The newer versions are the MekTek MechPack (New guns and 'mechs to hoist 'em on.) Get it Here.

Here's the installation instructions:

Installation Process
Installation of the MekTek Expansion is primarily handled by the MekTek Switcher(found here). The Switcher will auto-update your Mercs installation, backup the PR1 files and varients. It will also allow you to switch between MP1 and PR1 whenever you wish. If any future updates come out from MekTek, the Switcher will allow you to easily update your Mercs installation.

As with any patch or modification to a game or program, it is a good idea to make backups of your files before continuing. After doing so, please follow the following installation procedure:

MekTek Patch Switcher Installation
Installation requires a clean Mercs PR1 install (MW4: Mercs & PR1 Patch). Maps and varients are fine. Game modifications like the HUD patch, ‘Mech Textures and MiniMap Overlays MUST be disabled (not uninstalled, just disable them). Failure to do this will result in the patch process failing. After the installation is complete, you may reapply these modifications with no problems.

Download the MekTek Switcher and place in your MW4: Mercs directory. Run MekTekSwitcher.exe
GoTo: MekTekSwitcher Download

Press "Install" and follow the download/installation procedure.
At the download portion of the installation, you may choose from various mirrors to acquire the pack. If the Downloading updates.ini page holds up, click abort, and choose a different mirror.
Download size is approx. 45 megs.
During the installation, backup files will be made of the PR1 files so that you may switch between the two versions.

Reapply any modifications to the game, like the HUD Patch or MiniMap Overlays.

Launch the Switcher using your desktop/startmenu icon, it will give you the option to launch the classic game or the enhanced game. Preferably use this as your Mercs Launcher, rather than the regular MW4: Mercs shortcut.
Download Manager or Seperate Install Process
If you are on a 56k connection, and need to use a download manager to acquire the patch, your installation procedure will be slightly different.

Download the MekTek Expansion (MP1) and place in the UpdatesCache directory under your MW4: Mercs directory. Do NOT install at this point!
GoTo: English MekTek Expansion (MP1) Download

GoTo: German MekTek Expansion (MP1) Download

Download the MekTek Switcher and place in your MW4: Mercs directory. Run MekTekSwitcher.exe
GoTo: MekTekSwitcher Download

Press "Install" and follow the download/installation procedure.
At the download portion of the installation, it will pull the pack from the UpdatesCache directory.

Preferably use this as your Mercs Launcher, rather than the regular MW4: Mercs shortcut.

well, don't know what I did but it must have worked. Even though I don't know anything about switches etc. Don't see it on my desktop. However, was in the game and played most maps. There were a couple I couldn't get in to. Still haven't figured out the "one shot and your dead" trick! Guess that comes with practice?

I used cut and paste... I'm lazy!!

I usually go to Freemans Castle.

The one-shot-yer-dead trick works like this:
The lasers are instant-hit(aside from PPC and flamer)... everything else has travel time.
The CT can't die in one hit...so the trick is to have the heavy-hitting ballistics (LBX20, UAC20, AC20) and a Instant-Hit... a Medium Laser. The laser will do its damage first... then the ballistics hit, finishing off the CT. It's a one-two punch by less than a second.

Yep, played almost 5 hours today. Do have one question.....how do you keep from dying a lot? Seems I plug some guy until I'm completely empty, he takes one shot and take me out. Doesn't make sense......and I'm not that bad a player either....just die alot!lol

My advice would be to use a 'Mech with a small Center Torso,.. that's generally what people aim for.

Trouble is the range for a true alpha is 250m. Most of the games Ive played in recently is all jump jets pop tart games. Hard to get within the 250m range. Hell its hard to get within 800m.

Peace

yes, last night almost every game I was in I was being bombarded beyond 1000 km's by pop up guys. Made it tough. The team I was on wouldn't get together, they just went one at a time, right after each other to the lamb slaughter. Oh well....Where are you guys playing? Are you using OMO tags? or.....are you playing against me under an assumed and just killing me silly? :))

BTW-
Been using the Madcat MarkII carrying:
Cgauss Rifle
clbx20
2-clrm20 missiles
3-ERLarge Lasers
JumpJets
Lams

and...
Sunder
1-HVAC 20
2-CER PPC
1-PPC
1-cmdpls

I've got a lot of kills with the sunder. Seem to just piss people off with the MadCat

That's a mean pair of Mechs, Hearty. My only fear with the MK2 is the heat... how hot is it?
I run a Sunder like yours... it's x1 HVAC20, x3 PPC. It's very nasty, but a wee bit hot.

The Victor is nasty... but my only beefs with it are 1) with LBX20 is that you need to be within 150m for its full damage potental. I prefer UAC10s for the 500m range. And 2) it's crosstech! *stabs victor*.
I've been running a pretty nifty Thor of late, managed to go 11-3 in it in a 5 minutre period....
85kph
ECM, LAMS
1 Sink
x2 CUAC10 +1
x2 Heavy Medium Lasers

Try it out... the CUAC10s take time to get used to, but it's well worth it.

Hey, heartburn, i acutally saw you last night, when you left, i looked at my name and realized,.... yeah i forgot to put OMO on the end of my name.

As for tactics,..... because I'm a below average driver and shot,.... I usually pick the smaller fast mechs and keep the guys busy while the big guns can come in and romp.
