In the last week I've had nothing but problems. 1.Screen Freezes on "connecting to account server" 2 out of 3 times. The only way to shut it down is to pull the plug. 2.screen freezes when shutting down the game for the night. Ditto #1 above !@#$ I've grown to hate the looping background music. 3. Even when the game shuts down properly I still here that $#@! music in the background and can't do anything else on the comp for several minutes. 4.Instead of a full screen there is now an uneven border around the game. 5.Literally seconds into a game tonight,w/o a shot being fired,it tells me the other team won 300 to 299.Wouldn't mind so much if my team had won. ;) 6.The unlocked weapons only appear in game when they feel in the mood.
Maybe it's issues with all the servers, but there is more !@#$ than fun anymore.

If you could take the grappling hook and the little arrow thing out of SF and put it in BF2 you could all but throw away SF2. All it is is a sniping, sit in the corner and shoot at you as you run by, kinda game. Not too much different than most of the other games out there. I'm still missing the scud in DC and those guided missiles. As far as the issues:
Looping sound- Do what I did. Go to audio settings and turn the music all the way down. You won't hear it anymore. Crashing-Uneven playing box- Not for sure but you may need to go to the video tab. At the top is your resolutions. Try playing in the 800 range. That may help. Does for me.
Also, if your going to play BF2 then start from your BF2 Icon. If your going to play SF, start the game from the SF icon. If you want to switch after playing BF2 to SF, close the game and restart in that specific game. This seemed to help me somewhat.
Hope some of this helped. I B no guru when it comes to this stuff. Just mess around enough to be dangerous.

A bad install of SF? I know when I installed my copy it took me 3 tries. And even after I got it installed I had a lot of the same problems you are experiencing. Finally had to unistall BF2 and start over. Once I did that it worked just fine. Well... as fine as SF can.
And I will never buy a game to download from EA again. What a lame process. and now I have this stupid application install on my machine (EA Desktop) that when I try and uninstall says that SF might not work if I do. Not to mention the quality of SF in the first place. yuck. Played it about 6 times and went right back to BF2. If I wanted to run around in the dark shooting stuff I would have loaded up Doom3.
Is it Friday yet?

Dwarf, the night maps take some getting used to, but I have started to like a couple like the one with the sub pens and the airport. I don't care for the island. The daytime maps rock, with Warlord being my favorite (it's like the Karkand of SF). The hooks and zips open up whole new areas and strategies that add variety to the game. That being said, I still like the same old BF2. I wouldn't give up on SF yet.

Hipster, how much ram do you have? I had the same problem with the music continuing to play after quiting the game. Put another gig of ram in and that went away. Seems I had a few other minor annoying glitches that disappeared after installing the extra ram.

Well I've played SF about a dozen times and the verdict is in: no likey likey
I will say that the zip and hook are great additions and fun too. I like the new day maps, but not the night maps. My main beef is the mano-e-mano game style. I want more toys not less. Just running around killing each other is like Call of Duty or Medal of Honor or Halo or Brothers in Arms or....you get the picture. BF1942 and DC had ships, subs, planes aplenty, land vehicles and more. We've progressed graphically but not playablity wise IMHO!
I'd like DC with the new graphics, but when it comes out, it won't be ranked so there goes the point whoreing!
See ya!

Connecting to the account server is cus our cable service is only running at 1/10 what it's supposed to be. I sent you an email about running a speed test. I think the best I could get the last 2 days was a 200kbps vs what it supposed to be 2500kbps.
At least you got to play. I couldn't get connected at all. Call nesbe and maybe the more we complain the quicker they'll get in gear.
Actually someone is scheduled to come out tomorrow after 1200. We'll see if he show up in the snow. :(

I have only had this problem when they are having account server issues. The last major outages were a few days ago. So it sounds like this is what you ran into. Its a service bug, not a game bug. 2.screen freezes when shutting down the game for the night. Ditto #1 above !@#$ I've grown to hate the looping background music.
This might be a memory issue. My shuts down smooth as butter with the additional gig. 3. Even when the game shuts down properly I still here that $#@! music in the background and can't do anything else on the comp for several minutes.
Again, mine used to do this before I got the additional gig of memory. Now, the music stops as soon as I hit quit. 4.Instead of a full screen there is now an uneven border around the game.
No idea on this one, might be a vcard issue or a memory issue.
5.Literally seconds into a game tonight,w/o a shot being fired,it tells me the other team won 300 to 299.Wouldn't mind so much if my team had won. ;)
This is usually caused when you join a map and you don't get in before the end of the round and a new map starts to load. You have to commplete loading the initial map that before it will start the next map. Another cause might be that the admin switched the map right as you were spawning in. 6.The unlocked weapons only appear in game when they feel in the mood.
This is an account server issue. If this was happening when you were having a hard time connecting, then these two issues were related. When the account servers are acting up, the rank and unlock data gets messed with. Sometime you will have the correct rank with no unlocks or you will have unlocks with no rank. Again, this is a service issue, not a game issue. Maybe it's issues with all the servers, but there is more !@#$ than fun anymore.
It appears that the account server issues have been resolved as of now.

Thanks for the input guys. Older-I have 1 gig of memory and a GeForce 6800 GT (overclocked) 256 MB vid card. Because of the way Dell set up the original I'd have to replace ALL my memory sticks to go to 2 Gig total. I think this would run a few hundred bucks!!! Catheter I ran that test and our "broadband" connection is giving just 34 kbps DL and 335 upload!!!!!! Silver-I'm still trying to find your post "don't let this happen to you" about pulling the plug. What else can you do? The Alt/tab to minimize doesn't work,Esc does nothing, and Ctrl/Alt/Delete doesn't work. How the heck else can you get out of the game?

Hipster, I read that there were problems with the account servers last night as well. Sounds like that and the broadband connection are the biggest culprits.
a 2 gig kit (4 512s) on crucial.com will cost about $210. Or you could get 2 1 gig modules in preparation for 4 gigs for about the same price.

Hipster, 34 down is like a 36k modem, only worse. Call your cable company.

I reran the test and it's now 229 down, this is still really slow isn't it? The cable co. advertises "up to 500 kilobits/sec". The 229 is kbps, is kbps the same as kilobits/sec? (lol I don't know bytes from bits ). I will call the co. tomorrow The provider is Nesbe and they were just bought out by Jetbroadband who promises to spend millions to update their system.(crosses fingers).

229 down isn't even bad DSL. You should be up well past 1.5Mbps, maybe even 2 Mbps. You must be wrong about the 500, that is barely faster than the slowest DSL at 384kbps. Cable companies almost always talk in Mbps not Kbps.
Kbps is bits, KBps is bytes, Mbps is bits, MBps is bytes. Bits=networks Bytes=storage

It sounds like SF may be going the way of BF42's Secret Weapons. The vehicles in that game were fun but on most of the maps there were too few of them. The checkpoints were too far apart and much of the time I found myself having to hoof it for long distances because their were no vehicles left. Add that to my general dislike of infantry fighting and it makes for not very fun gaming.
I myself have not yet purchased SF and based on what I am hearing I am not in a hurry to go get it.
