If you use 1280x1024 resolution you lose the ability to use some UI buttons for some reason. I'm really liking it, never played a beta that kept me this captivated.

I can't get it to go back to 1024x768. but it doesn't really matter the game is smooth. I wouldike to see the sprint go a bit faster. and yes there is squads. :)

Delete this file:

C:\Program Files\THQ\Frontlines-Fuel of War Beta\GCGame\Config\GCEngine.ini

It will reset your settings. I leave it on 1280x1024 though and deal with the button issue. Looks much better then the other settings.

However, as of right now there having serious connection/deploy issues so no FL for Sting :^(

My widescreen is going to make this look really funny then since I was only playing 1400x900. That will obviously be something they fix.

Perhaps that is also why the movement feels sluggish?

Did you play with the aspect ratio settings? I'm just curious what difference they would make.

It's official - Frontlines releases Feb 25/08

Hopefully most of the bugs are worked out..I really like the frontlines concept where everybody is drawn to a common battlefied line.

Spec,if you had to rate this game as of your last experience,
would you rate it: must buy, try and buy, or meh, wait for the bargain bin,
or stay away?

sorry, i'm no nosehair at setting up a poll . . .

I'm going hold off on final comments to see if they release a Demo. But from the last Beta I played, last fall, it still had a lot of work to iron out. The 'feel' of the game was good and the remote bots (yes even something for Fuddy) was cool. but the controls of the vehicles/person needed tuning. I'll check out the last Beta they did (I think Feb 8 or so) and re-report. Still hopeful.

here's a fileplanet link to the current beta:

From the last BETA I played, I'd vote meh Burns.

Infantry, CoD4 > FFoW,
Vehicles over all game play, BF2 > FFoW

It does bring some cool things to the table (RC helo that you can explode over enemy soldier), but I'm not sure it's enough to kill the almighty BF2.

Unlike Spec, I hate being dictated what direction a battle is going to go. FFoW forces you to progress in a linear fashion. One of the fun things I like to do in BF2 is to sneak out a camped control point, capture a back flag and open the game up again. Can't do that in FFoW, you have to capture points in a certain order.

I see the reasoning behind it, but not sure I'd like to play a game where it's the only game mode like FFoW.

Also, as spec said, first betas were buggy, they also felt awkward to me. Game didn't seem as smooth or fluent as BF2 or CoD4. Open beta has not been privy to any new releases or updates in a long time, so I'm not sure what they've fixed or improved.

They introduced the frontline concept back in Desert Combat (can't remember the name of the map). It was one of those maps that everyone hated because if one team gets the early jump, all they have to do is camp out at the first control point the whole game.

sort of, except that assault lines would only lock the rearmost flag

There's going to be an official Demo out on March 11. Strange...after the release.

Thats strange, I always like to play the Demo before buying. But sometimes the Demo dosen't give a good feel of the game, I didn't like the COD4 Demo and held off getting it till all my brother OMO/BCO's started playing so I picked it up and really liked the full version.

Well if you are an Xbox 360 owner you can DL the demo there. It wont give you the feel of what its gonna be like on the PC, but you can still see all the purty stuff.

They say its gonna be the same on both PC and xbox /shrug. I think this one is gonna be a winner from what I have seen so far!

I agree with Stingray. He and I played a lot of the early closed betas and it was actually better early on. As the new versions came out, it seemed to get more and more lack luster and felt like a mod for 2142. The last beta version I played was the one when it first went public and I felt like it was really odd feeling. I think that the multiplayer code is/was a bit laggy and reminded me a little of Crysis.

I had high hopes for this game, but my hopes are dashed and I don't see myself buying it.

Game is out, 360 boys like it, PC boys seem to be giving it the thumbs down. No PB support, no favorites in the browser. Also bugs that were present in beta made it to final release.

Looks like they rushed it a little. I'd definitely wait on this one for a little while. Or at the very least wait for demo.

I'd hate to be working for Kaos right now, they really fumbled the ball on this release.

No MP servers, working on a patch now
No anti cheat (there were already cheaters in beta)
No joystick support, though they said there would be during beta
No favorites list in the game browser.
Numerous install issues

I pre ordered this game just because Desert Combat was such a great mod. Wish I had read this thread before I did.

I see there is a patch out already too, which may or may not be a good sign.
