Hey Burniste... I got into Company of Heroes with some of the west-coast OMO's (sucked at it, but it was fun), then COD4, a brief reprise with BF1942, then Team Fortress 2.

1942 !!!! I did like flying back then. Loved the Philippines too. If I can find that CD I wouldn't mind loading that in. OMG PC gaming is hurting. Only the old games are fun. What's up with that ?!?!

You should be able to pick up the whole 1942 series for about 20.00 bux at any elecronics store. If not, PM me and I'll send it to you for shipping costs. approx 15 bux.
I tried it and it doesn't appeal to me.
*edit* this offer is open to any OMO or BCO. Act now 'cause quantities are limited! *edit*

Nosey,
Lots of new games are fun, but for some reason they don't seem to hold people long. I think it all has to do with unlocks, ranks, etc. I have been away from BF2 for the better part of a year now and while BF2 vanilla is still a bit boring to me, I really love the mods and SF. COD4 is great too. It got stale, but after being gone for a while and then going back to it this week it's really a great game.
Things are really looking up with FarCry 2 and COD WaW coming out the next two months. I can't wait to play with fire propagation in FC2 ;)

WaW?
I miss Descent 1-3. I especially miss Descent 3 mutiplayer. Man was it good.
The problem is that newer games cost more to make given all the graphics and more advanced 3D spaces being programed. But the grandeur and newness is no longer the same. Pong was innovative, but Space Invaders was far more engrossing.

1942 is indeed slow by today's standards but on the flipside, it was well-balanced.
And there are servers that I used to play on 4-5 years ago that are still around. My favorite was/is an El Alamein CTF mod where they have the right-click-turbo jeeps, lots of airplanes for whoever wants them, and occasionally this weapon they call the "zook" which is a point and shoot, instant death bazooka. They used to call themselves the Railriders, now they call themselves the Disciples. It's just one map, but with this setup the game is fast, balanced, and has lots of games within the game.

Duke Nukem, the game that got me hooked to PC gaming. Still one of the best games ever.
Link to some Duke quotes, classics.

I figure gaming keeps me home, stops me from chasing tail and hitting the bars.

Yeah, Doom was certainly a hook, but it was Descent II and Descent III that really kept me gaming. Then HomeWorld came out and it was all down hill from there.

I played lots of games on line in the very early days of the internet craze (doom, etc) but it was Rainbow Six 3 and the BF mods (DCF, FH, and GC) that really got me hooked on gaming. I always played video games going way back to the Atari 800 we had when I was a kid and we would have to load the games from a tape player (took forever to load a damn game. lol). However, it was the online multiplayer aspects of Rainbow Six 3 that really got me onto the obsession.
I think a big part of the new games not having holding power for many is the fact that so dang many games are out there. Think about the releases that come out each and every week on PC, Xbox360, PS3 and Wii. And that doesn't even take into account the numerous titles on all the older systems and handhelds. It's a rare thing that a game will draw a huge crowd now a days like COD4, BF2, and WoW draw. Also, I think the bluring of lines between game genres has also caused a number of gamers to go in different directions. I know myself, as well as other former FPS only gamers have started to get into many other types of games now. Seems that most game genres are now seeing a lot more RTS and MMO type play being blended with the base game play.
Oh and Petri, WaW is World at War. COD5 is actually called Call of Duty: World at War. It's WWII Pacific Theater based and is very similar to COD4, but has some new and really cool things added. Flame Throwers for the win. lol Maybe I am a pyromaniac at heart cause I just ordered COD WaW and FC2. FC2 (FarCry 2) has very cool environmental effects, including fire propigation dependent on the weather (wind, humidity, etc). Can you say Fire Wall defense. ;)

It will have MP similar to CoD4 regarding upgrades and perks, even tanks. Not all maps will be larger enough for tanks, but some will be designed specifically for them.
In short, it should have a pretty good MP component.

COD WaW should have great MP, as it's more of a continuation of COD4 in terms of game play, but they have added more things and just changed the time and theater of war.
