I rode in a parade for a Vet that died about a month ago. Gerald Harkey was his name. He was not a Vietnam Vet but worked to help any Vet he could. He was a member of Rolling Thunder and We rode for him this time.
On the 13th of Dec. I will be riding to Salisbury NC Veterans Home with the Patriot guard to place a wreath at the Military cemetery. Myself and about 5 other Veterans from my church and some of the young children go every Saturday to talk to the WWII vets and Korean vets to let them know they are not forgotten and that we love them and their service.
People stick them away in these homes and forget about them. Family just want to get rid of them so as not to be a drain on them. I say they need to be shown they are appreciated and will continue to go to see them. Men that have lost their legs, arms, blinded by war and disfigured for our freedom. Men that stood up for us when called. They are my heroes.
If you can get to Pearl Harbor someday. Go the the memorial and just look down and think of what went on that day.
Blood is still being shed, not spilled. The difference in those is that shed blood is blood that was offered for our freedom. Spilled was a accident. These young men and women are going to keep us safe.
If you know of any Soldiers that will be coming back to the states at this time or any other. Make the effort to go out and thank them for their service. Show them that you love them for their efforts to stand in the gap between us and those that want this country to fall and to see our people dead. They are Brave souls and should be thanked.
